There are plenty of reasons a tree may need to come down - disease, storm damage, structural failure, building work, or simply because it's outgrown its space and is causing problems. Whatever the reason, our team handles every removal safely and with minimal disruption to your property.
We carry out both straight felling (where space allows the tree to fall in a controlled direction) and sectional dismantling (where the tree is taken down in sections from the top down). The method we use depends on the size of the tree, the space available, and what's around it.
Every tree removal includes full clearance of timber and arisings from site. We leave your garden or site clean and tidy, ready for whatever comes next.

When Should a Tree Be Removed?
Not every tree problem requires removal - often crown reduction or other surgery can resolve the issue. We'll always be honest with you about whether removal is actually necessary. That said, there are situations where removal is the right call:
- The tree is dead or dying and poses a safety risk
- Significant structural defect - leaning, root failure, cavity in the trunk
- Serious disease that cannot be managed
- The tree is causing subsidence or damage to structures
- Building or landscaping work requires it
- The tree is simply in the wrong place
Tree Removal Questions
Most trees can be removed without permission. However, trees covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or located within a Conservation Area require consent from Sheffield City Council before any work is carried out. We can advise you on whether your tree is subject to any restrictions before work begins.
Tree removal includes cutting the stump to ground level. Full stump grinding (removing the stump below ground) is available as an add-on and is priced separately. We'd recommend stump grinding if you want to use the area for planting or landscaping, or if you want to eliminate any risk of regrowth.
It depends entirely on the size of the tree and access to site. A medium garden tree can often be removed in a morning. A large specimen tree in a tight garden may take a full day or more. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when we quote.
Yes - if you want to keep logs for firewood or any part of the timber, just let us know when we quote. We can cut timber to length and leave it on site rather than taking it away. Wood chip from branches can also be left if useful for garden mulch.
Costs vary significantly depending on tree size, species, access and what's around it. A small tree might cost from around £200-300 to remove, while a large tree in a difficult location could run to £1,000 or more. See our cost guide for more detail, or get a free no-obligation quote.
